What to do when your head is cold:
During chemotherapy, I lost all my hair. It made me greatly appreciate when my hair came back! I had always taken hair for granted, but I no longer do.
One thing that I found out – it’s cold without hair on your head! A friend told me about a fantastic product called a slumbercap and even gave me one to use. The slumbercap stayed on all night and my head stayed nice and warm. If you are going through chemotherapy (or even if you know someone with no hair!) I would highly recommend this product.

Dealing with financial issues brought on by illness:
Like many others who have gone through a battle with cancer, I thought I had enough insurance. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Plus, ten years ago when I was diagnosed, there was little support for patients regarding financial issues.
The result – we used credit cards to deal with the extra medical expenses not covered by insurance, the help I needed with the children – and all the interest on the credit cards! We are still dealing with these financial burdens. We have been counseled many times to go bankrupt but have always decided against it. Over one-half the bankruptcies every year are a result of severe medical bills, so if you are going through this, know that you are not alone.
One goal I have is to create an organization specifically designed to help patients with severe medical problems deal with the financial issues brought on by the illness.
Patient Advocate Foundation is one group already helping. Founded by a former cancer patient, it helps patients deal with insurance companies, employers and other touchy issues often ignored in the first rush of the diagnosis. (which is like getting hit in the head by a sledge hammer)

This site has fascinating articles related to support for cancer patients.
A special poem was written for nurses and published on www.NurseZone.com. To read this poem, please go to the bottom of the poems page.
If you are a group that also helps patients, please e-mail tigerteam1@gmail.com and I will add you to this links page.
